IG Arena Opens This July@Nagoya

One of Japan’s largest arenas, IG Arena, will officially open in July, just in time to host the Nagoya Grand Sumo Tournament.

While the official name is Aichi International Arena, the facility has been named IG Arena due to naming rights granted by Aichi Prefecture. The rights were acquired by the IG Group, a global financial technology company headquartered in London, and listed on the London Stock Exchange.

The company provides online financial trading services worldwide.

Location: Meijō Park

  • Address: 1-4-1 Meijō, Kita Ward, Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture
  • Nearest Station: Meijō Kōen Station (Meijō Line, Nagoya City Subway)
  • Convenient access — the station entrance is right next to the arena.

Grand Opening Event: Nagoya Grand Sumo Tournament

The inaugural event at IG Arena will be the Nagoya Grand Sumo Tournament, starting on July 13.

Traditional sumo banners and ceremonial signs have already been installed.

However, all 7,800 seats per day for the entire two-week tournament sold out quickly.

While the arena’s full capacity is 17,000, it is reconfigured for sumo events, accommodating approximately 7,800 seats.
